The following Honours are earned through the achievement of merits in the annual professional photography awards. Full financial members of the NZIPP and approved overseas organisations (AIPP, BIPP, PPA, PPOC, SWPP/BPPA and WPPI) receive merit points towards NZIPP Honours, Associate, Master and Fellowship levels, which permits the use of letters: ANZIPP, M.Photog and FNZIPP respectively. To achieve Associate status, a photographer needs to achieve 10 merit points over a consecutive 4-year period (7 points of which can be made up of 14 Professional Standard half-points). An Associate can progress to Master status by achieving a further 10 merit points (excluding Professional Standard points) over a consecutive 4-year period, to include a minimum of 2 silver awards. A Master can progress to Fellowship status by achieving a further 10 merit points (excluding Professional Standard points) over a consecutive 4-year period, to include a minimum of 1 gold and 2 silver awards. Bars to each level are achieved by the member achieving the same number of merit points again in another consecutive four year period.
